Wonderland of Lakes and Forests

The Northwoods of Wisconsin is famous for its beautiful lakes as well as its outstanding forest trails. You’re never more than a mile or two from a designated hiking or biking trail. Northwoods lakes and flowages are famous for their great fishing and friendly resorts. Untamed rivers offer outstanding canoeing and kayaking.

The Wineries – Sensational Settings

The wineries of the Northwoods offer great wine in idyllic settings. The Bayfield Winery overlooks Lake Superior, with stunning views of the Apostle Islands. White Winter Winery creates world-class meads, bracketts and hard ciders using age-old techniques. Hook Stone Winery crafts its wine from grapes grown in California and Washington. 
 
The European style Chateau St. Croix features a carriage house, stables, vineyards, formal gardens, picnic areas and a fishing pond. Take in eight acres of vineyards as you enjoy well-balanced wines at the River Bend Vineyard & Winery. At Cap-N-Corks, you’ll find a variety of wines poured daily at the tasting bar, as well as fresh-roasted coffee and everything you need to start your own in-home winery.
 
Enjoy samples at Autumn Harvest Winery, surrounded by picturesque countrywide and a lush orchard. The Munson Bridge winery is located on a historic farm in Clark County, just down the road from where the Munson Bridge crosses the Black River.

Waterfalls, Fishing and Wilderness Trails

Top canoeing and kayaking destinations include the Flambeau, Chippewa and Brule rivers. For whitewater, your best bet is the Peshtigo River in northeastern Wisconsin. Other Northwoods attractions include Copper Falls State Park, which features excellent trails following a series of breathtaking waterfalls.

Bayfield, at the tip top of Wisconsin, offers excellent restaurants, unique shops and a charming fishing village atmosphere—it’s the perfect place to catch a ferryboat to Madeline Island or a boat tour to the Apostle Islands. And communities like Withee offer a quiet rural charm.

Hayward and Three Lakes provide the traditional Northwoods experience of authentic supper clubs, lakeside resorts and talk of trophy muskies. Chippewa Falls and St. Croix Falls are river towns with an abundance of unique character. The St. Croix National Scenic Riverway and is the gateway to Crex Meadows, one of the most outstanding birdwatching destinations in the Midwest. Eau Claire is a laidback college town with many restaurants, shops and pubs.

And places like Iron River and Lakewood will thrill you with their scenic beauty and wilderness surroundings.
